Probably the most scenic drive in the United States is the 68-mile drive on highway 360, or commonly known as "The Road to Hana". Listed on the National Register of Historical Places on June 15, 2001, there is hardly a scenic drive that can compare to the Road to Hana (RTH) and its breathtaking waterfalls, gorgeous ocean views, tropical rainforests, 59 bridges (46 of which are single lane bridges dating back as far as 1910), hiking trails for all levels of experience, bamboo forest andof course the possibility of a rainbow around any of its 620 curves! You must plan a full day (8 hours minimum) for this adventure for a couple of reasons: 1. Speed limit is 25 mph for nearly the entire 52 miles. 2. There is NO passing at anytime on the RTH; even though there are plenty of turnouts that can be used to allow cars to pass, drivers hardly ever use them!! 3. Yielding at 59 bridges 4. The many stops for pictures you and everyone else will do along the way! 5. Beyond Hana there is plenty to see including; A. Charles Lindbergh's grave at Palapala Ho'omau Church B. 'Oheo Gulch (aka Sacredor Seven Pools in Kipahulu (small fee per car) C. Red Sand Beach
Note:Bridge Etiquette: The first car to the bridge should be the first car to cross the bridge. If there is more than one car waiting to cross the bridge, it's customary to allow all cars traveling in the same direction to drive through with the first car.
